When to Go to Halloween Horror Nights 2026: The Data Behind the Shortest Waits
We have polled Universal Studios Florida every few minutes since Halloween Horror Nights 2026 opened on September 2 — 35,595 wait-time readings across eight event nights and ten haunted houses. Enough to answer what every HHN ticket holder actually asks: which night, and when do I walk up to the door?
The short version: the hour matters more than the night.
The clock beats the calendar
Across all ten houses and all eight nights:

Waits climb the moment the gates open, plateau between 8 and 11 PM, then fall off a cliff. The 1 AM hour averages 26 minutes against the 10 PM peak of 65 — a 60% drop. The back half of the night runs 19% lighter than the front half, the final two hours 43% lighter. That is the biggest lever you have, and it costs nothing but sleep: staying to 2 AM beats picking the “right” night.

Before you circle Wednesday on the calendar: the spread within a weekday is wider than the spread between weekdays. Our two Wednesdays came in at 34.7 and 51.0 minutes, our two Thursdays at 38.6 and 50.4. With one Saturday and one Sunday on the books, night-of-week is not yet a reliable predictor, and we would rather say so than sell you a pattern eight nights cannot support.
Opening week did run soft — the two lightest nights were the first two. Sunday, September 6 was the heaviest of the season at 67.8 minutes, but that was Labor Day weekend, so read it as a holiday night. Friday, September 11 is still in progress and is left out of the ranking.

Ozzy is the one to save for later
Every house improves after midnight, but one breaks the pattern at the start. Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness averages 101 minutes in the event's first ninety minutes — above its own 10 PM plateau of 80, and the only house busier at opening than at peak. Everyone sprints there at 6:30. By midnight it is 52.
Hellraiser is the mirror image: 35 minutes at opening, lightest on the list, climbing to 68 at peak.
A running order that follows the data
- 6:30–7:30 PM — Hellraiser first, then Jack & Oddfellow (39 minutes at opening). Skip Ozzy entirely; it is at its worst right now.
- 7:30–10 PM — Cybergoria and H.R. Bloodengutz before they settle into the 70s. Also the cheapest window for the day rides: with the crowd stacked in house queues, TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D averages 9 minutes during HHN, MEN IN BLACK 16, Escape from Gringotts 21.
- 10–11:30 PM — the plateau. Eat, walk a scare zone. Nothing queued now is cheaper than it will be at midnight.
- Midnight–2 AM — Sinners (46 minutes late against 96 at peak), Ozzy at 52, then MADLANDS, INVASION and Stranger Things 5, all into the low 20s.
If you only have four hours
Arrive at 10 PM, not 6:30. The 10 PM–2 AM block averages 48 minutes a house against 59 for 6:30–10 PM, and skips the opening-rush surcharge on the headliners. Fewer houses than a full night, but a smaller share of the evening spent in a queue.
How we counted
Every figure comes from waits recorded inside the posted HHN window (6:30 PM–2 AM ET) on September 2–6 and 9–11, 2026, counting only readings where the attraction was operating. House averages cover 13,674 of them; single-rider queues are excluded. September 2 and 3 carry far fewer samples than the rest, so those are the softest numbers here.
